About Costa Rica Chirripo
This coffee comes to us from the mountainous region of San Jose in Tarrazu, Costa Rica. Our Costa Rica Chirripo beans are grown in volcanic soils at high altitudes. When ready for harvesting, the cherries are selectively handpicked from the plants and delivered to the nearby mill. The wet mill follows a meticulous sorting process (known in the industry as strictly hard bean certification) to ensure only the best coffee cherries of the crop make the cut.
In southern San Jose, the Caturra and Catuai Arabica cherry plants experience ideal growing conditions. The Central Valley is sheltered between the Pacific Coast and the Talamanca Sierra - a geography that traps coastal moisture, retaining it as precipitation. When those conditions are combined with high altitudes and ample sunlight, the plants grow exceptionally well and produce excellent quality arabica coffee.
Our Costa Rica Chirripo is named after the Cerro Chirripó, which is the highest mountain in Costa Rica, with an elevation of 3,821 meters. It is part of the Cordillera de Talamanca, and the mountain range's highest point.
We roast this coffee to-order in small batches from our Northumberland based roastery to ensure optimum freshness and flavour by the time it makes it into your mug.
